DECEIVED BY DESIRE

Its back to school time at least it is for me, so thats the main reason why this review it a bit late. Anyways, the book that is being reviewed today is called Deceived by Desire by one of my favorite authors, Marie Force from her Gilded Series. I have not done a review on the first book of the series, Duchess by Deception for a couple reasons that also intertwine with the backstory of this series. When Marie Force first announced that she was releasing a historical romance series, I was a bit apprehensive about it  due to my limited exposure to the specific category, which is the The Lustful Lord Series by Sorcha Mowbray. Therefore, I waited for a good bit after the release of the firs book to read it, and by the time I read it, many months had passed. However, now having read both books in this historical romance series, I can tell you that I really fell in love with the setting, the characters, and the storylines, but for this review I am going to focus on Deceived by Desire. Lets get into it...

As mentioned before, Deceived by Desire is book two in the Gilded Series. As soon as I read the first book, I could not wait for its sequel and boy, it did not disappoint. It truly reminded me of a Bollywood movie in novel form taking place in the early 20th century. If you know anything about romantic Hollywood movies (especially from the 90s- Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge), its all about the protagonist (girl) falling in love with a boy that the girls` parents do not approve of. Instead, in this novel, the roles are reversed, the setting is changed to a different period, and the culture is different, although similar in some degree. While reading this novel, I felt like there was a movie going on in my head. In a weird way, this book reminded me of my childhood of my love of romantic Bollywood movies as well as reading historical fiction books (American Diaries?). It was basically a weird mash of the two in the best way with the best twist, being written by one of my favorite authors. Now that I have rambled for a bit, the synopsis is going up next as well as information of where to buy this book, the series and more information about the brilliant author.

From New York Times bestselling author Marie Force comes a glittering tale of star-crossed romance set amid the lavish mansions and decadent lifestyles of early 20th century Newport, Rhode Island. But even in an age of great fortune, the heart has its own idea of true riches . . .

Wealthy American industrialist Aubrey Nelson has invited the Duke and Duchess of Westbrook to visit his family’s Newport seaside “cottage” for the summer. With much to do and little time, Aubrey comes to rely on the housekeeper, a lovely young Irish woman named Maeve Brown. And when he also finds himself confiding in Maeve about more personal matters, he tells himself it’s merely their close proximity that draws him to the compassionate, hard-working beauty. Yet when he suspects Maeve is in danger, Aubrey realizes his feelings for her have grown much deeper than they should have. For what will his mother, who dreams of a society match for her son, have to say when she arrives to discover he’s lost his heart to a girl of the working class?

ONE YEAR LATER

Its here you guys...the sequel of Five Years Gone has finally been released! Actually, it was released today, a little over 12 hrs ago, so I`m going to keep this review spoiler free and as always leave the blurb and links below. By the way...I did a review similar format to this review on the first book of the duo-logy (for the time being), so if you want to read that review, its under the Oct 2018 tab. Anyways...let`s get into it....

I`m going to preface this review by saying that please make sure you have read the previous book, Five Years Gone, before you read this one. Usually, I don`t say this, but for these books, at least for me, I feel that you will understand the storyline of One Year Later much better if you have read the first book of this short series. Now, that being said, this book was much better than Five Years Gone for me simply because I loved the complicated storyline that this book addressed. While the previous book broke me, One Year Later shattered me. I fell in love with the protagonist and felt so much for him throughout the book. Don`t get me wrong, I still love Five Years Gone, but One Year Later definitely takes the cake. If you loved Five Years Gone, you will for sure love its sequel. I would highly encourage you all to read this amazing novel!

The hotly anticipated follow up to Five Years Gone is here!

He came home a hero and lost the only woman he’s ever loved...

John
I have no idea how to survive without my beloved Ava. She had no choice but to move on with her life during my six-year deployment and has now married Eric. I hate him for taking her from me. I’d prefer to wallow in my depression and heartbreak, but the whole damned world wants a piece of the SEAL Team leader who helped capture the world’s most-wanted terrorist. I need help handling the relentless requests, and when Ava sends her new sister-in-law to manage the media circus for me, I’m prepared to hate her on principle. Her brother took my Ava. What else do I need to know about her?

Julianne
It takes five seconds to realize Ava’s ex is going to be the most complicated and difficult client I’ve ever had, but the opportunity to represent the most celebrated man in the world could make my career. I’m determined to do the job, even if I dislike John from the moment I meet him. And I like everyone. So much so that my brothers worry about me being exploited by those who would take advantage of my unwavering love for others. But John… He’s in a class by himself, and his bitterness is a festering wound that I begin to wish I could somehow fix for him. The more time we spend together, the more our mutual disdain morphs into something that feels an awful lot like desire. There’s no way I can want this man, or so I tell myself, and when Eric finds out I’ve developed feelings for the man causing trouble in his new marriage, well…

That’s going to be a hot mess.
